Favorite Arcade Games
My roommate and I, in college, found someone in a nearby city selling
a "real" arcade game (Solar Quest). We went to see it, and found that it
didn't work. Well, this wasn't about to stop my roommate's unbridled enthusiasm.
He poked his unknowing head into the back of the game, flipped it on, and
started touching the loose wires to the motherboard. I stood out front,
and was amazed when a picture came up. We took the game, and returned to
our dorm room where it was an instant hit. Some minor cleaning up, lots
of luck, and it worked most of the time. We later traded it for an almost
perfect Space Duel! Later, without my consent, he traded it for a Mario
Brothers. To get back at him, I never let him beat me at it
(To get the other side of the story you can visit him at Dave's
Gossamer's Lair. Don't belive him!).
Well, college is done, my roommate is several states away, the games
are gone, but the desire to own that Space Duel stayed with me. Oh, and
from my high school days, I liked Omega Race.
Collecting is cool. Fixing them up is time consuming, but fun. I spent
about $60 total on my Omega Race. It was in pretty bad shape at first,
but managed to get parts and a better cabinet, and now it's in excellent
shape. I spent $300 (which was a little high) on my Space Duel which is
in great shape, and worked when I got it.
